Joseph B. Platt, decoración de interiores

Hobe Erwin sugirió a Joseph B. Platt como su sustituto en el cargo de responsable de la decoración de interiores de Lo que el viento se llevó en octubre de 1938.

Joseph Brereton Platt, que nació el 26 de marzo de 1895 en New Jersey, era diseñador, dibujante y pintor. Pertenecía al grupo de la revista norteamericana House & Garden, especializada en la decoración y una de las más prestigiosas del país, que no dudó en hacer una buena publicidad de la película como trabajo de uno de los suyos. Este extremo llevó a las protestas de Wheeler y Selznick, que apreciaban el valor de Platt, pero no apoyaban la exageración de su aportación al decorado de Gone with the Wind.

Wheeler afirmaba que la única contribución de Platt al decorado había sido el papel pintado para la pared del vestíbulo de la casa de los Butler, al que habría que sumarle la propuesta de alfombras y mobiliario antiguo para la vivienda en Atlanta.

El talento de Platt, que falleció el 6 de febrero de 1968, se aprovechó también en los trabajos para Selznick Rebecca (Rebeca, 1940) y Portrait of Jennie (Jennie, 1947).

El amor en Atlanta y Casablanca

Hasta el próximo 22 de mayo se puede visitar y contemplar la exposición titulada "Te amo? Una historia del amor y el matrimonio" en el Museu d´Història de Catalunya, en Barcelona. Y, por supuesto, se puede visitar y contemplar la referencia visual a Lo que el viento se llevó que,junto a una imagen de la inmortal Casablanca, ilustra la conexión entre el cine y el amor.

La muestra se centra en un viaje por el amor y el matrimonio en Europa, sobre todo, desde los tiempos antiguos hasta lo que sucedió en nuestro siglo XXI.

Biografía visual de Vivien Leigh

Han pasado cien años del nacimiento de Vivien Leigh y casi medio siglo de su desaparición física, pero sigue cautivando. Lo prueba el estupendo libro Vivien Leigh: An Intimate Portrait, que publicó Kendra Bean a finales de 2013.

Se trata de una colección magnífica de fotografías de la intérprete de Escarlata O´Hara, acompañadas de un relato de su vida, que se apoya por primera vez en los archivos Laurence Olivier para cubrir varios detalles.

La frase de Butler

Ochenta años después de alcanzar el máximo nivel en la lista de novelas más vendidas, Lo que el viento se llevó sigue apareciendo en el recuento de libros y películas más citados, ya sea en la primera posición, ya sea en un lugar destacado.

Es el caso de "Francamente, querida...", frase de Rhett Butler, que aparece en esta selección inglesa sobre las citas cinéfilas de todos los tiempos, que encabeza Toy Story, nada menos, por delante no solo de Gable, sino de Caine o Pacino.
